How to choose a pump for a water feature
Measure vertically from pond water level to the highest point the water must reach. Then allow for resistance from hose length, bends, small-bore pipe, valves and the filter.
A broad sheet of water needs more flow than a narrow trickle.
A separate feature pump lets filtration continue when the waterfall is off.

Support the pump above the pond floor and secure every return hose. If wind moves a waterfall return or a hose comes loose, water can be pumped outside the pond. Raising the pump leaves a safer reserve for fish.
